Jabberwacky

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jabberwacky is a chatbot developed by the British computer scientist Rollo Carpenter .

It was launched in 1989 and has been running on the web since 1997 . It aims to simulate a natural-looking, entertaining and humorous chat with a human partner . Models for human learning behavior are developed, such as how children could learn languages, rules and individual facts in their special context.

The program only uses previously learned material: it accesses a database that contains all previous entries made by the user - a suitable answer is calculated from this fund for every further entry using a complex technique of pattern recognition (see semantic network ).

Since Jabberwacky went online in 1998, user responses have grown from 20,000 to over 13 million in 2004. The program won the bronze medal Loebner Prize in 2005 (as “George”) and 2006 (as “Joan”) (for learning ability).

The Turing test deals with the artificial intelligence of such programs .
