Jack Belton

John "Jack" Belton ( Irish Seán de Béalatún ; † February 23, 1963 ) was an Irish politician and sat from 1948 until his death in the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

Belton was first elected to the Dáil Éireann in 1948 for the Fine Gael in the Dublin North-East constituency. He was re-elected in 1951, 1954, 1957 and 1961. When he died in February 1963 during the 17th Dáil, his brother was Paddy Belton in subsequent elections elected to the House of Commons.

Belton was also a member of the City Council of Dublin and held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin from September 30, 1950 to June 1951 .

Jack Belton came from a very politically active family. His father Patrick Belton was a member of the Dáil Éireann. But Jack Belton's brothers Paddy and Richard also embarked on this career. Richard's daughter Avril Doyle sat in the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009 .
