Harold Lee "Jack" Elder (born August 9, 1941 in Seattle , Washington ) is a former American luge athlete .

Elder got into tobogganing when he was stationed with the US Army near Berchtesgaden between 1962 and 1966 . In 1969 he won bronze at both the US and North American Championships. He took part in the Luge World Championships in 1965 , 1967 , 1970 and 1971 . In addition, he started in Sapporo , Japan in 1972 at the Winter Olympics . In the two-seater with Frank Jones , he finished 15th. He then retired from the sport until he made a comeback in 1984. He was able to win bronze again in the doubles at the national championships.

Elder attended Kent-Meridian High School in Washington, DC , where he played American football and was black belted in judo . He later worked as a radio host for 13 years and was chairman of Oregon Sports Action , a group trying to bring the Winter Olympics to Oregon . He also made a brief appearance in It Happened at the World's Fair , a film with Elvis Presley , in 1962 .
