Jack FM (radio format)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jack FM is a radio broadcast format (and the name of some radio stations in the United States (e.g. WWJK - JackFM 94.7 FM) and Canada (e.g. CKLG-FM - 96.9 Jack FM, Vancouver )) that first started in 2002 went on air in Canada. In contrast to previous broadcasters, which have certain tight music rotations (youth format “ CHR ”, “ Adult Contemporary ” etc.), broadcasters with the Jack FM concept make use of a very broad spectrum. For example, well-known rappers are given space between country and Elvis songs. The main component of the playlists , however, are rock hits from the 1980s. With 1,200 to 1,500 tracks, the rotation is about three times that of American radio stations.

Jack FM is the nucleus of the radio format Variety Hits . Jack-FM's target group is 25 to 54 year olds.

The rights for the concept are owned by Rogers Media in Canada and Paragon Media in the USA . These companies supply the radio stations with the complete music rotation as well as pre-produced moderation blocks. 60% of the music is identical at all Jack FM stations, 40% is determined by local surveys. The claim ( playing what we want ) and the program scheme are identical at all stations . Outside of the morning hours, there is only the pre-produced moderation elements and advertising in addition to music. Messages, contributions or other service elements do not take place.

Jack FM was developed because the previous concepts on the radio are losing more and more acceptance. Starting from Canada, some stations in the USA adopted the format. In Europe, the format is being analyzed in detail by many radio stations, but it is also very controversial. Radio 21 and its partner station Rockland Radio were the first radio stations in Germany to adopt this format in August 2009.
