Jack Jewsbury (born April 13, 1981 in Joplin , Missouri ) is an American football player in the position of midfielder. He currently plays for the Portland Timbers in the top division of North American football, Major League Soccer (MLS).
Career
Youth and college
Jewsbury attended Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri . In his senior year, he scored 59 goals in one season for the school team, setting a new record for the state. He scored a total of 124 over four years of high school. He has received several awards and was active in various selection teams.
After high school, he moved to Saint Louis University , where he was part of the St. Louis Billikens for four years. He was appointed to the first team of the All-Conference USA twice. In addition to college, he played for the Kansas City Brass in the USL Premier Development League .
Club career
His professional career began in 2003 when he was drafted into Major League Soccer at the MLS SuperDraft as the 43rd pick for the Kansas City Wizards . In his first season he stood for a total of 66 minutes for the Wizards and was temporarily loaned to the Syracuse Salty Dogs. In his second year he was on the field a lot and quickly developed into a good player for the team. In the years to come he consolidated his regular place in the team.
On March 1, 2011, he moved to the Portland Timbers for a transfer fee . He was named captain of the team shortly after his arrival and scored the most goals for the team at the end of the season.
