Alfred John "Jack" Kelsey (born November 19, 1929 in Llansamlet , Wales , † March 18, 1992 ) was a Welsh football goalkeeper.

life and career

The goalkeeper began his career with the Welsh football club Winch Wen. In 1949, Kelsey was signed by Arsenal FC . After two years with the reserve team, the Welshman made his debut against Charlton Athletic in February 1951. After another year in the second team, he became the first goalkeeper for the Gunners. His greatest successes were the 1953 championship title with Arsenal FC and being called up to the London XI for the finals of the Exhibition City Cup and for the British national football team against Ireland . Internationally, Kelsey played 41 times for the Welsh national team . Kelsey played at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden . With Wales, the goalkeeper was only eliminated in the quarter-finals against eventual world champions Brazil with a goal by Pelé . In total, the Welshman played 352 times for Arsenal. In 1962 he ended his career after a serious hand injury , which he suffered during the friendly between Wales and Brazil. After his active career he worked as an advertising manager at Arsenal FC. Jack Kelsey died in 1992 at the age of 62.
