Jack Purcell
John Edward "Jack" Purcell (born December 24, 1903 in Guelph , † June 10, 1991 in Toronto ) was a Canadian badminton player .
Career
Jack Purcell won five single titles in a row in Ontario from 1927 to 1931, as well as four double titles. In 1919 and 1930 he became title holder in the men's singles at the Canadian championships. After his amateur status had been revoked, he was an uninterrupted professional world champion in badminton from 1932 to 1945. In 1935 Purcell created a sports shoe that is still in production today. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1955 , and into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1973 .
