Jackie Thomas (born November 18, 1990 in Greymouth ) is a New Zealand pop singer . In 2013 she became known as the winner of the first edition of the talent show The X Factor in New Zealand.

biography

Before Jackie Thomas applied for the casting show , she had sung in her hometown in performances in her high school and in the Greymouth Operatic Society , including in the musical Grease . In early 2013 she moved to Auckland to study and then applied to The X Factor . At the first audition, she was raised to the circle of favorites. She had the song Skinny Love by Bon Iver selected. In boot camp, however, she gave a bad performance and was sorted out. Only after major protests and an Internet call did she make it to the next round after mentor Daniel Bedingfield had stood up for her. In the further course of the show she proved herself and had the support of the audience. She won six out of nine rounds and eventually the final.

After the win, Jackie Thomas sang the winning track It's Worth It on the show , which then went to number one on the New Zealand charts and went platinum after three weeks . She also went to the recording studio and sang the songs from her show appearances again for an album. The album with her name as the title was released three weeks after the show ended and also reached number one on the charts and gold status.
