Jacky Vidot (born August 1, 1964 in Saint-Denis , Réunion ) is a former French football player .

Player career

Vidot grew up in the French overseas territory of Réunion and learned to play football there. As his older brother Noël Vidot had done a few years earlier, he left his home country in 1983 and went to metropolitan France to attend the INF Vichy football training center. He drew the attention of the scouts of the second division team EA Guingamp to himself and was able to sign a professional contract with the club in 1984. Coach Raymond Keruzoré relied on the young player and made him a regular on defense right after his arrival. In the second year of his career, Vidot did not miss a single game; in addition, the team reached good table positions in both years and approached a possible promotion.

When Keruzoré left the club in 1986, Guingamp had a difficult time with several coach changes. On the one hand, this meant that the team could not build on the good performance, while Vidot personally lost his permanent place at times. For the 1987/88 season he was not only appointed, but was also entrusted with the office of team captain at the age of 23. The following seasons were marked by the relegation battle, with Vidot remaining loyal to his club despite everything. In the 1991/92 season he succeeded in breaking free, to which the professional contributed his best result of the season with four goals and moved with the team close to the promotion ranks. In the following year, the team found themselves in thirteenth place, which meant relegation due to the merging of the previously two-pronged second division into one group. In the same year, the then 28-year-old Vidot announced the end of his career after six years as captain and nine years in total as well as 272 second division games with six goals for Guingamp; he had never made it to the top French league.

Life after career

Immediately after the end of his active career, the ex-professional returned to Réunion to train an amateur club there. A year later he moved back to France to take on responsibility at a lower-class club from Saint-Brieuc . In 1999 he gave up the coaching job and from then on worked as a hospital employee. His son Junior Vidot, born in 1991, tried to start a football career at FC Lorient , but failed to make the leap into the professional team.
