Jacob Jan Alexander Wijs

Jacob Jan Alexander Wijs (born November 12, 1864 in Amsterdam , † December 13, 1942 in The Hague ) was a Dutch chemist. A method for determining the iodine number of unsaturated fats is named after him.

After attending school in Amsterdam and then studying chemistry, Wijs received his doctorate from van't Hoff in 1893 . From 1889 he was employed by the Nederlandse Oliefabriken in Delft, where he worked until his retirement in 1928. He received an additional doctorate in history from the Reich University of Leiden in 1939 .
