Jacob Plange-Rhule

Jacob Plange-Rhule (born July 27, 1957 in Winneba ; † April 10, 2020 in Accra ) was a Ghanaian doctor and professor of medicine. He was President of the Ghana Medical Association and Chairman of the Ghana Kidney Association and Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons .

Life

Plange-Rhule first studied medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology up to a Bachelor's degree . He then studied in Great Britain and obtained a PhD in the physiology of the kidneys from the Victorian University of Manchester in 1984 . This was followed by practical training as a doctor in the field of internal medicine in Ghana.

He became a doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) , where he built up the kidney disease and high blood pressure departments . He became the head of nephrology at the hospital. Plange-Rhule also taught physiology, initially at the  School of Medical Sciences in Kumasi . In 2011 he was appointed Vice Rector at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra. In 2015 he became rector.

Jacob Plange-Rhule died on April 10, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa from the consequences of a COVID-19 disease in the hospital of the University of Ghana .
