Jacqueline Hill

Jacqueline Hill (born December 17, 1929 in Birmingham , United Kingdom, † February 18, 1993 in London , United Kingdom) was a British actress .

life and career

Jacqueline Hill initially worked as a model. After that she worked in a chocolate factory. She completed her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). From 1955 to 1959 she appeared in several plays that were televised as part of the BBC Sunday Night Theater . So she had an appearance in addition to Sean Connery in the play Requiem for a Heavyweight . Her future husband Alvin Rakoff directed the film. In 1963 Hill got the role of teacher Barbara Wright in Doctor Who . She, William Russell, and Carole Ann Ford played the Doctor's first companions . After 2 years, Russell and Hill decided to leave the series together and focus on other projects. First, the two appeared together in the play Separate Tables . A little later, Hill decided to quit acting and start a family. In 1979, however, she appeared again in programs such as Romeo And Juliet or Tales Of The Unexpected . She also appeared again in Doctor Who in 1980. There she played a new character named Lexa. Hill died of breast cancer on February 18, 1993. She left behind her husband Alvin Rakoff and two children, a daughter and a son. In 2013 a film about the early years of Doctor Who was made with An Adventure in Space and Time . Hill was portrayed by Jemma Powell .
