The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Rheinische Musikschule Köln ( JSO Köln ) is a youth symphony orchestra of the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne . It is conducted by Alvaro Palmen and Egon-Josef Palmen.

history

The Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra was founded in December 1976 by Egon-Josef Palmen on the occasion of a performance of Mozart's opera La finta giardiniera . At that time the orchestra consisted of 35 members.

In 1982 the orchestra went on a tour to France .

Later Alvaro Palmen , the son of Egon-Josef Palmen, took over the main direction of the orchestra. In his youth he had already played as concertmaster in the Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra.

In 2001 the orchestra appeared as the only guest on the show on the Harald Schmidt Show .

A concert tour to China took place in 2016.

The Tutti samples of the orchestra found Thursday in the auditorium of vocational colleges Ehrenfeld instead. In addition to the tutti rehearsals, there are regular register rehearsals with lecturers from the Rheinische Musikschule and string and wind rehearsals .

Every year in the first week of the autumn break in North Rhine-Westphalia there is a test drive to the Weikersheim Castle Music Academy .

Concerts

The Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra prepares two to three concert programs a year.

There are regular cooperation concerts with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne . There the young members of the youth symphony orchestra work together with the musicians of the Gürzenich orchestra, mostly under the direction of the current general music director, to develop a program that is presented in one or two concerts.

Furthermore, four autumn concerts are held every year. Two concerts will take place as part of the test drive to Weikersheim in the Wandelhalle in the Bad Mergentheim spa center and in Weikersheim. This will be followed by a concert at the Cologne University of Music and another at the Altenforst grammar school in Troisdorf .
