Alvaro Palmen (* 1964 in Copenhagen ) is a German violinist and conductor .

Alvaro Palmen was born in Copenhagen as the son of the Colombian singer Lia Montoya and the conductor Egon-Joseph Palmen . He received his first violin lessons at the age of 4. His further training took place from 1976 at the Rheinische Musikschule . This was followed by studies at the University of Music in Cologne and at the Bern Conservatory with Max Rostal and Berta Volmer .

Since 1986 he has been a repetiteur member of the first violins of the Gürzenich Orchestra . From 1987, together with his father Egon-Joseph Palmen, he led the Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra . Further conductors have been with the State Youth Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia , the State Youth Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, the RIAS Youth Orchestra Berlin and the Young German Philharmonic .

He conducted the Gürzenich Orchestra in several opera performances at the Cologne Opera, such as the world premiere of Die heilige Ente by Hans Gál in 2003, L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti in 2004 and Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck in 2006. He also directed three concerts by Gürzenich Orchestra in the Cologne Philharmonic .
