Jacques-Elysée Goss (born April 23, 1839 in Geneva , † December 8, 1921 in Vesenaz ) was a Swiss architect who built numerous apartment buildings, stately homes and watch factories in his hometown and in Savoy in the second half of the 19th century .

Education and career

Ferney-Voltaire Castle, restored by Goss

Goss was initially with Charles Brocher and Adolphe Reverdin in Geneva and then continued his training from 1858 to 1861 in Paris with the architects Bridault and Lesoufaché. He then opened his studio in Geneva. Goss cultivated a Baroque-French style in the sense of Beaux-Arts architecture , his main work, the Grand Théâtre in Geneva , is probably influenced by the Opera Garnier, which was around the same time. The Hotel National , also built in the mid-1870s, shows a French palace architecture with a corps de logis and a mansard roof.
