Jacques Besson (engineer)

Jacques Besson (* around 1540 in Grenoble , † around 1573 in Orléans ) was a French mathematician and engineer .

Besson taught mathematics in Lyon and Orléans from 1564 to 1567. At this time he also met King Franz II and introduced him to his inventions. From 1569 he worked as an engineer in the service of King Franz II .

In 1568 he invented the first thread cutting machine. He later invented and built a fire engine. With Theatrum instrumentorum et machinarum (1569) he wrote the first modern book on machine technology.
