Jacques Pellegrin

Jacques Pellegrin (born June 12, 1873 in Paris , † August 12, 1944 in Paris) was a French herpetologist and ichthyologist .

Life

Pellegrin studied natural history . In 1894 he became a taxidermist at the zoology section at the Paris National Museum of Natural History , instead of Léon Vaillant (1834-1914).

He successfully submitted doctoral theses in medicine (1899) and natural science (1904). In 1908 he was appointed deputy chairman of the department.

After many research trips, mostly to the French colonies, he became deputy chairman of the museum in 1937, replacing Louis Roule as head of herpetology and ichthyology .

He published over 600 scientific monographs and writings and discovered around 350 new species . Pellegrin named a number of species of fish from the Cichlidae family . In addition, several species have been given nicknames in his honor. z. E.g . : Geophagus pellegrini .
