Jade Ashton Carey (born May 27, 2000 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American gymnast. At the 2017 World Gymnastics Championships , she won two silver medals in jumping and floor gymnastics .

Athletic career

Carey competed in the first elite competitions from July 2017. It was very successful from the start. At the national championships in August, she won the gold medal on the vault and the silver medal on the ground. She was then nominated for the World Championships in Montreal . There she qualified for both the jump and the floor finals. She was second in qualification on the vault and third on the ground. In the final she was able to confirm her performance from the qualification: She won a silver medal at her first world championships. She was only beaten by the defending champion and Olympic runner -up Marija Passeka . In the floor final she also won the silver medal behind Mai Murakami - in the absence of qualifying winner Ragan Smith . She decided not to take part in the 2018 World Championships in order to secure an individual starting place for the Olympic Games via the World Cup. At the gymnastics world championships in Stuttgart in 2019 she became world champion with the team for the first time, and despite crossing over with both feet, she again won the silver medal on the jump, beaten only by Simone Biles .

Private life

Carey lives in Phoenix / Arizona. She graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale in 2018. She had originally agreed to study at Oregon State University from the 2018/19 school year and compete in the college championships for the team there. However, she postponed her entry to the 2020/21 school year in order to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
