Dance Academy - The Comeback (Original title: Dance Academy: The Movie ) is an Australian - German Youth - dance film from the year 2017. Directed by Jeffrey Walker , wrote the screenplay Samantha Strauss . The film is a co-production between the Australian Children's Television Foundation , Werner Film Productions and ZDF Enterprises . The film was released in Australian cinemas on April 6, 2017. The German premiere took place on October 20, 2017 at KiKA .

This film is a continuation of the youth series Dance Academy - Dance your dream! (2010-2013) and tells the story of Tara Webster (played by Xenia Goodwin ) after the third season.

The talented ballet student Tara Webster dreams of a big breakthrough, but afterwards an accident on the stage throws her plans in the wrong place. Suddenly she is faced with the shards of a career that has not yet really started. Tara starts studying at a university, but her old dream does not leave her alone.

Shortly afterwards she started training again and tried to get a coveted place in the Australian national ballet.

Director Jeffrey Walker , screenwriter Samantha Strauss , producer Joanna Werner , cinematographer Martin McGrath and film editor Geoffrey Lamb have also contributed to the series. David Hirschfelder was responsible for the music . Miranda Otto was hired for the role of ballet manager .

The shooting took place from May 29 to July 21, 2016. In Australia, the film was released on April 6, 2017. In Germany, KiKA showed the film on October 20, 2017.
