The fighter squadron 28 was a Württemberg unit of the Air Force in the First World War .

history

The Jagdstaffel 28 was set up in Boeblingen on December 14, 1916 . Oberleutnant Rudolf Lang took over the squadron on January 20, 1917. On January 24th the squadron was relocated near Kortrijk . Max von Müller achieved the first aerial victory of the squadron on April 7, 1917. Nine pilots achieved five or more aerial victories while they were part of the 28th squadron. In total, pilots of the squadron achieved 100 aerial victories. The squadron suffered its first loss on May 1, 1917. Its own losses included nine pilots, three more were injured, one sustained injuries in an accident and one pilot was captured. After Oberleutnant Lang was transferred, three squadron leaders fell within five months. Among them was Captain Otto Hartmann , who led the squadron from June 8, 1917 until his death on September 3, 1917.

The last squadron leader was Lieutenant Emil Thuy , who led the squadron from September 28, 1917 to November 11, 1918.

Planes

The Jagdstaffel 28 was mainly equipped with Albatros D.III and Albatros DV . Later, Fokker D.VII added.
