Jaime Basílio Monteiro

Jaime Basílio Monteiro (born April 11, 1969 in the Namacurra District , Zambézia Province , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican politician ( FRELIMO ), lawyer and police commissioner. Since January 19, 2015, he has been Minister of the Interior in the Nyusi cabinet .

biography

Jaime Monteiro was born on April 11, 1969 in the Namacurra district of the Zambézia province. He studied law at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo .

After completing his studies, he began a career in the Mozambican police force ( Polícia da República de Moçambique ). Most recently, Monteiro was Vice-General Command of the Police. In March 2014, President Armando Guebuza appointed him Comissário da Polícia , the highest rank in the Mozambican police force.

After Filipe Nyusi was elected President of Mozambique, he appointed him Minister of the Interior in the Nyusi cabinet on January 19, 2015 . Monteiro named “peace and stability” as the priorities for his term of office.

After taking office, Monteiro initially had all directorates and police command re-staffed. Shortly after taking office, the French-Mozambican lawyer Gilles Cistac was shot dead on the street in Mozambique in early March 2015.
