Jaime Smith Basterra

Jaime Smith Basterra (born September 6, 1965 in Bilbao ) was managing director of O₂ Germany and a member of the executive committee of BITKOM eV

During his education he received a Bachelor (BA) degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Comercial Deusto in Spain . He also completed his studies in Finance and Investment from 1988 to 1989 with a Magister (MA) from Exeter University in Great Britain . He is married to Ines Prado Aranguren and has two children.

His professional career began from 1989 to 1998 as a telecommunications industry analyst and equity research director at Benito & Monjardin SVB SA. Almost at the same time he worked from 1989 to 1999 at Banesto (Banco Santander Group) as director for global equities in the fund management department. This was followed by activities as Director of Financial Planning at Telefónica Internacional (1999) and Controller for the Telefónica Group (October 2000 – December 2002). In addition, from June 2005 he was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Telefónica de España (December 2002 – June 2005) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and CEO of Ceský Telekom (legal predecessor of Telefónica O2 Czech Republic). He is also a member of the Management Board of Telefónica Germany (since January 2006) and was a member of the Management Board at Telefónica Germany from June 2007 to mid-2009.
