Jakob Braun (educator for the blind)
Jakob Braun (* July 1795 in Bruck an der Leitha ; † July 3, 1839 in Vienna ) was the first Austrian pupil for the blind and taught at the Institute for Education for the Blind in Vienna.
Life
Jakob Braun went blind at the age of three as a result of the flapping . On May 13, 1804, Johann Wilhelm Klein took the boy in with him in Vienna to teach him. This day is considered to be the hour of birth of the blind education in the German-speaking area and especially of today's blind education institute in Vienna. After about a year of home schooling , Jakob Braun was given an examination in front of a large audience. The result was very satisfactory for both teachers and students. The school authorities could also be convinced of the success of the teaching for the blind and Klein was allowed to accept and teach other blind students. After completing school, Braun worked as a work teacher and home carpenter at the Institute for the Blind in Vienna. As a teacher, he was a great role model for his students.
Jakob Braun died in the General Hospital in Vienna in 1839 .
