Jakob Burckhardt the Elder , also Jacob Burckhardt the Elder (born November 4, 1785 in Basel , † December 17, 1858 ibid) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman .
Jakob Burckhardt was the son of Johann Rudolf Burckhardt (1738–1820), pastor at Basel's St. Peter's Church . He served from 1816 to 1836 as a senior helper (second pastor) at the Basel cathedral . From 1838 to 1858 he was the first minister pastor and thus Antistes of the Basel Reformed Church .
