structure

Parishes

The Basel church consists of seven parishes and has around 30,000 members. They are organized territorially, which means that the place of residence decides on the affiliation to the respective parish. However, exceptions to this principle have been possible since 1997. The executive body is the church council.

Cantonal Church

The synod (church parliament) is the legislative body of the cantonal church. It has 80 members who are elected by the voting members of the Church. The synod in turn elects the church council, which conducts the affairs of the regional church and is responsible for implementing the resolutions. The Basel Church Council has nine members and has been chaired by Lukas Kundert since September 1, 2004 .

The assemblies of pastors and social workers who are organized in the “Parish Chapter” and the “Diakonie Chapter” have a special position.
