Chiesa evangelica riformata nel Ticino
The Chiesa evangelica riformata nel Ticino (German: Evangelical Reformed Church in Ticino ) is the organization of the Evangelical - Reformed population of the canton of Ticino . In almost all areas, the church is bilingual in Italian and German.
history
In the 19th century, in connection with industrialization and the rise of tourism, Protestants moved to Ticino, which had been completely Catholic since the Counter-Reformation .
Origins
As a result, Reformed parishes were formed in Lugano , Locarno , Bellinzona and Airolo . These four parishes united on September 17, 1966 to form the Federazione delle Chiese Evangeliche-Riformate del Ticino .
A referendum on October 26, 1975 gave this association the same legal status as a corporation under public law as the Roman Catholic Church already had. An immediate consequence was the equality of the reformed religious education in the public schools as well as its secure funding at the upper level.
In the course of the referendum, the church was renamed “Chiesa evangelica riformata nel Ticino”, or CERT for short .
