Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Uri
The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Uri comprises the Evangelical Reformed church members on the territory of the canton of Uri and, as a regional church, is a corporation under public law .
history
Until the end of 2002 the Uri church was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church Association of Central Switzerland . This dissolved on January 1, 2003. The newly formed, independent Reformed cantonal churches became members of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation .
Origins
The presence of Protestants in Uri, which has been completely re-Catholic since the Counter-Reformation, is closely linked to the construction of the Gotthard Railway in 1882. This led to the influx of numerous Reformed families of workers and engineers, who began to organize themselves confessionally in the diaspora , including the Protestant church Aid associations in particular of the Canton of Zurich were supported.
organization
The currently valid organizational statute was adopted at the spring assembly of the regional church on May 19, 2014. Thereafter, the Urner regional church forms a single parish. The three parishes of Altdorf , Erstfeld and Ursern (including Göschenens; with a church in Andermatt ) existed before the current organizational status was adopted .
The church council as the executive branch of the regional church has five to seven members and is chaired by Felicitas Schweizer (as of 2017). The legislature is the parish assembly and - through its direct democratic involvement - the entirety of the members of the regional church.
