The Evangelical Reformed parish of the canton of Zug has almost 18,000 members and is also the Reformed regional church in the canton of Zug . In addition to the Reformed Christians in the canton of Zug, those from Meierskappel in Lucerne also belong to it .

history

After the defeat of the Reformed in the Second Kappel War in 1531, there were no more Reformed Christians in Zug until the middle of the 19th century. That changed only with industrialization. In 1867, the first Reformed church in Central Switzerland was consecrated in Baar. Other churches were built in Zug (1905) and Cham (1915). In the following decades, additional Reformed churches were built in the canton, the last in 1997 in Hünenberg. The Zug church was part of the Evangelical Reformed Church Association of Central Switzerland until the end of 2002 and has been a direct member of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation since its dissolution on January 1, 2003 .

The Zug church consists of a parish with seven districts, which are equal to parishes. The highest legislative body is the large parish council with 50 members elected in the districts. The church council (executive) manages the business of the church, has nine members and is chaired by Rolf Berweger . Seven church council members are elected by the parish for a term of office of four years each, two church council members are delegated to the church council by the parish council.
