Jakob Greber (politician)

Jakob Franz Greber (born March 23, 1952 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1982 to 1994 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1985 to 2004 mayor of Schwarzenberg .

education and profession

After finishing elementary school in Schwarzenberg, Greber attended the polytechnic course and then completed the agricultural vocational school and the St. Wolfgang graduate course. In 1976 he passed the agricultural master craftsman examination, in 1978 he acquired a diploma for "agricultural policy" at the Political Academy Vienna. Professionally, he worked on his parents' farm between 1967 and 1970, which he took over in 1970 and ran until 1977. He then worked from 1977 to 1985 as head of the Vorarlberg branch of the Getreidewirtschaftsfonds and was then mayor from 1985 to 2004. Since 2005 he has been running a guest business with his wife.

Politics and functions

In 1974 Greber joined the Austrian People's Party or its sub-organization, the Austrian Farmers' Union . From 1976 to 1994 he was a member of the regional farmers 'council and from 1982 chairman of the farmers' union in the community of Schwarzenberg. He also acted as chairman of the Bregenzerwald farmers' union from 1984 to 1994. Furthermore, Greber was a founding member of the Vorarlberg Young Farmers' Union as well as its secretary and provincial chairman and was a co-founder of the Arge Alp Landjugend-Jungbauern and the Arge Jungbauern in the Austrian Farmers Association Vienna.

He was active in local politics from 1980 to 2004 as a member of the municipal council, and in 1985 he was elected a member of the municipal council and mayor of Schwarzenberg. Greber remained in this role until March 2004. From February 3, 1982, as a member of the Bregenz constituency, he was also a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament, succeeding Walter Renner . After the state elections in 1984, he replaced Siegfried Gasser , who was elected to the regional council , and on October 3, 1994, he left the state parliament.

Within the party, Greber was a member of the state party executive of the ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1976 to 1994. He was also a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg, was a member of the ÖVP district leadership Bezau from 1976 to 2004 and acted as the deputy district party leader of the ÖVP Bezau. He also volunteered as a parish councilor in Schwarzenberg, was active at the Schwarzenberg dairy and chairman of the study committee for youth issues and a board member of the Bregenzerwald regional planning community.

Private

Jakob Franz Gerber was the son of the farmer Jakob Greber from Schwarzenberg and his wife Katharina Greber, née Schmid, also from Schwarzenberg. He married the nurse Angela Maria Nigsch in 1987 and had four sons between 1989 and 1997.
