Jakob Kortkamp

Jakob Kortkamp (also: Kurtzkampff; * around 1615; † around 1665) was a German composer and organist at the North German organ school .

life and work

Very little is known of Kortkamp's life. Together with Matthias Weckmann , he was a student of Jacob Praetorius the Younger . Kortkamp was organist at the Nikolaikirche in Kiel. Johann Rist described him as "a master who is perfectly trained and experienced in singing and organ" .

Both chorale arrangements for organ and vocal works have come down to us from Kortkamp .

Jakob Kortkamp had a son, Johann Kortkamp (1643? –1721), who was also a composer.
