Jakob Margi ( Hebrew יעקב מרגי; * November 18, 1960 in Morocco ) is an Israeli politician of the Sephardic ultra-orthodox Shas party.

Life

Margi was born in Morocco and brought to Israel through Operation Jachin in 1962 .

Between 1993 and 2003 he was chairman of the Religious Council of Beer Sheva . Between 2001 and 2003 he was Secretary General of the Shas . In 2003 he was first elected to the Knesset. After his re-election in 2006, Margi was chairman of his party's parliamentary group. He was also briefly chairman of the Knesset's budget committee. Margi also moved into parliament in 2009, and from March 31, 2009 to March 18, 2013, he held the post of Minister for Religious Services in the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Margi lives in the Moschaw Sde Zwi (שְׂדֵה צְבִי, lit. Zwis Feld), is married and has two sons.
