Jakob Maria Josef Hart (born April 27, 1886 in Lutzerath ; † February 25, 1970 in Simmern / Hunsrück ) was a German priest , dean and honorary canon .

Live and act

Jakob Hart grew up with his two siblings in Bendorf am Rhein in a family whose parents were both teachers. After taking his Abitur examination at the municipal high school in Neuwied, he studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Episcopal Seminary in Trier from 1905 to 1909 . After he was ordained a priest on March 27, 1909 , he worked for three years as a chaplain in Spiesen ( St. Ludwig ), Saarbrücken-Malstatt and two more years as parish vicar in Braunfels . From 1917 to 1928 he worked as a pastor in Schönberg . On August 25, 1928, he went to Simmern to lead the affairs of the parish of St. Josef as pastor there for over 40 years.

In 1934 he was appointed definator , on January 12, 1953 he was appointed dean of the Simmern deanship and in 1957 he was elected diocesan president of the Marian Congregation for Priests . On July 31, 1959, he was given the honorary title of clergyman hc and on May 2, 1960 he was named Dome of Honor of the Trier Cathedral . Like many others, was also Jacob Hart the persecution of the Nazis in the " Third Reich suspended", which earned him subsequently a heart condition. In his professional activities he showed a certain severity towards parishioners and his chaplains, but he was also known for his gentleness and piety in pastoral care and in the Eucharist . Although he took note of the results of the Second Vatican Council , he was skeptical and wait-and-see towards them. Although he had now reached the age of 83 and he was still full of zest for action, he finally accepted his retirement on September 1, 1969, which, as it was said, was only possible after gentle argumentation. After he died on February 25, 1970, he found his final resting place in Simmern.
