Jakob Messikommer

Jakob Messikommer (born August 18, 1828 in Wetzikon ; † August 23, 1917 there ) was a farmer and poet . In 1858 he discovered the remains of a pile dwelling settlement in the Robenhauser Riet . Until the end of the 1880s, he directed numerous archaeological excavations in Eastern Switzerland. In 1893 the University of Zurich awarded him an honorary doctorate for his services to prehistoric research.

Jakob Messikomer was first married to Barbara Wismer from 1858; after her death in 1861 he entered into a second marriage with Babette Barbara Mäder.
