Jakob Sombart (* 1719 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † 1762 there ) was mayor of Elberfeld.

Sombart's ancestors came from Hamm. Only the grandfather Johann Matthias Sombart had moved to Soest and the father Johann Jakob Sombart (1689–1729) from there to Elberfeld, where Jakob Sombart was born and baptized on January 7th, 1719. His father had previously married Anna Margareta Siebel (1692–1755) in Elberfeld, the daughter of Elberfeld's mayor Anton Siebel . He himself married Katharina Gertrud Krabb (1726–1764), who came from there, in Mülheim an der Ruhr in December 1746, with whom he had five children. Sombart acquired Elberfeld citizenship on February 28, 1750, his two brothers Abraham and Johannes followed suit in 1753 and 1758.

Sombart became a council member in 1753 and unsuccessfully proposed mayor in 1755, 1757, 1758 and 1760. It was not until 1761 that he was actually elected mayor and thus became city judge of Elberfeld the following year. He died in Elberfeld in 1762 and was buried on June 21.
