Jakob Thorarensen
Jakob Thorarensen (born May 18, 1886 in Húnavatnssýsla , † 1972 ) was an Icelandic writer .
Life
He grew up in the north-western part of Iceland and initially worked as a farmhand and fisherman. He then went to Reykjavík and began an apprenticeship as a carpenter. In 1910 he became a journeyman and later became a master builder. From the mid-1920s he worked exclusively as a writer, writing poetry and short stories. As a poet, he orientated himself on the romanticism of the 19th century, which in Iceland in particular idealized the Icelandic Free State between 870 and 1264. He published ten collections of lyric poetry. He also wrote six volumes of stories.
