from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Justquinus von Gosen († in November 1636 ; also Johann Jusquinus von Gosen ) was a German lawyer and local politician . He played a role in the constitutional disputes in the city of Stralsund at the beginning of the 17th century as well as in the warlike events of 1628 and in 1629 became councilor of Stralsund.

Life

Justquinus von Gosen worked as a lawyer in Stralsund at the beginning of the 17th century. At that time there were constitutional disputes within the city, which the Pomeranian Duke Philipp Julius wanted to settle. During his presence in Stralsund in 1612, the duke pushed through that Justquinus von Gosen was elected citizen's spokesman . The Duke had hoped to be able to influence Justquinus von Gosen, who did not belong to the Stralsund patrician families . The Duke was soon disappointed in this, so that he soon deposed Justquinus von Gosen and even held him prisoner in Wolgast in 1614 and 1616 . The Stralsund inheritance contract of 1615 and the Stralsund civil contract of 1616, which regulated the affairs of the city and its relations with the Duke, were thus concluded without Gosen's participation.

The Stralsund council offered Gosen the office of city syndic , but the latter refused. He participated in the defense against the siege of Stralsund in the Thirty Years' War in 1628. In August and September 1628 he and the Stralsund mayor Lambert Steinwich took part in an embassy to the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf , with which closer contacts were established between Stralsund and the Swedes.

In 1629 Justquinus von Gosen became councilor of Stralsund. He was passed from the council in 1635 and died in 1636.

Justquinus von Gosen had acquired the domains Kakernehl , Wittenhagen , Bockenhagen and Krummenhagen . These passed on to his nephews after his death.
