Jakobsbad
Jakobsbad is a town and part of the Gonten district in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden , Switzerland .
Jakobsbad is a scattered settlement consisting of a few residential buildings, the Jakobsbad Kurhaus , a train station of the Appenzeller Bahnen , a campsite and the Leiden Christi monastery . This is an active, cloistered-contemplative monastery , belongs to the Roman Catholic women's order of the Capuchin Sisters , a branch of the Franciscan order and is under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of St. Gallen .
Transport and tourism
The valley station of the Jakobsbad – Kronberg aerial cableway to the Kronberg is on the south side of the train station . There has been a summer toboggan run from the Alpine-Coaster system since June 28, 1999, and a varied rope park since June 16, 2007 . The first motor skills park in Switzerland was created near the valley station. It and the two large playgrounds are open to the public.
The barefoot path to Gontenbad begins at Jakobsbad train station . Jakobsbad is also a stage on the Way of St. James .
Surname
The name Jakobsbad is derived from a spring on the northern slope of the Kronberg. The "Jakobsbrunnen" ( 1515 m above sea level ), named after St. Jakob , is located west of the St. Jakob chapel (1450 m) between the summit of Kronberg and Scheidegg. Until the First World War there was a lively bathing business in Jakobsbad.
