The Church of St. James ( Polish: Kościół Ewangelicko-Augsburski Apostoła Jakuba Starszego w Ustroniu ) in the center of Ustroń , Poland , is a Protestant parish church in the Silesian Beskids . It is dedicated to James the Elder .
history
In the course of the Reformation, the Lutherans took over the parish church of Ustroń in the middle of the 16th century. When this was returned to the Catholics as part of the Counter-Reformation in 1654, the Habsburgs forbade Lutheran services and the Lutherans withdrew to the forests of the Silesian Beskids to celebrate the Lord's Supper, where they built so-called forest churches. When the Lutheran denomination was permitted again in the course of the Josephine reforms, the Lutherans first established the parish office in 1783 and a new Protestant church in Ustroń in 1785. The current church was built from 1835 to 1838 and the tower was added in 1856-1857. The church furnishings are from the 18th and 19th centuries and are in the Rococo and Classicism styles.
