Franz Voigt

Franz Voigt (born April 27, 1876 in Weimar ; † March 26, 1940 in Kassel ) was a German art historian .

Life

Franz Voigt was the son of the publisher Paul Voigt and his friend Agnes, geb. Handle. After his parents moved, he attended school in Kassel, where he passed the school leaving examination in 1897. For economic reasons, he did not start studying, but instead joined the administration of the Reichsbahn . On February 1, 1926, he was given permanent retirement for health reasons.

He then studied art history in Jena , Munich and Berlin and received his doctorate in Jena in 1930 with Wilhelm Koehler with a dissertation on baroque hunting locks in Thuringia . In 1931 he became the librarian of the state art library and the copper engraving cabinet of the Kassel museums . In the Kupferstichkabinett he succeeded in discovering previously unknown drawings. He wrote articles on Hessian artists for volumes 29 to 32 of the Thieme-Becker artist lexicon . He died of a serious heart condition.
