Jakobus Kaffanke

Jakobus (Erhard) Kaffanke OSB (* 1949 in Magdeburg ) is a German Benedictine brother as well as moderator, author and editor.

Life

Erhard Kaffanke was born in Magdeburg and had lived with his family in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1953. After graduating from high school in 1967, he did his basic military service in Bingen am Rhein . He then studied law, philosophy and theology in Heidelberg and Benediktbeuern with a degree in theology . In 1983 he joined the Congregation of the Benedictines in the Archabbey Beuron in. He took the religious name Jakobus and lived as a friar in the Beuron monastery and, since 1993, as a hermit in the St. Benedict hermitage at Ramsberg Castle near Großschönach.

Kaffanke leads meditation courses on Christian Zen meditation and seminars on spirituality and mysticism as well as business ethics. He has published numerous books and works, including the “Instructions of the Fathers” with currently 19 volumes on ancient monasticism. Together with the district of Sigmaringen and the 10th Panzer Division , he published a work on the resistance fighter Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg , one of the central figures of the military resistance against National Socialism in the German Reich . Kaffanke is the first chairman of the Seuse Association.

In 2013 he received the Silver Medal of Merit of the Sigmaringen district for his “services to research and communication of the fundamentals of Christian and especially Benedictine spirituality and regional history”.
