Yakov Chernikhov ( Russian Яков Георгиевич Чернихов , born December 5 . Jul / 17th December  1889 greg. In pavlohrad , yekaterinoslav governorate , Russian Empire ; † 9. May 1951 in Moscow ) was an architect and designer of the Soviet Constructivism .

Life

Jakow Tschernichow studied from 1907 to 1914 painting and architecture at the art school in Odessa . In 1917 he completed the higher pedagogical courses at the Academy of Arts in Petrograd . In 1925 he finished his training at the Leningrad WChUTEIN . From 1930 he was the main architect in the Leningrad branch of the Giprochim project planning institute .

In the 1930s, Chernikhov taught at various architecture and engineering schools in Leningrad and Moscow.

During Stalinism, like many of his colleagues, he abandoned the functionalist formal language, but no longer carried out any projects. Chernichov also worked as a painter privately.
