Career

In Cologne he initially headed the otological department in the Bürgerspital from 1906 to 1909 and, from 1909, also its rhino-laryngological department. By 1919, Preysing expanded both parts into an efficient ENT clinic.

When the University of Cologne was re-established in 1919, he was appointed full professor of ear, nose and throat medicine . In addition to the ENT polyclinic in the Bürgerspital, Preysing also took over the new university ENT clinic in Lindenburg.

In his scientific work, Preysing mainly dealt with pathological-anatomical work. He was co-author of the four-volume “Handbook of Special Surgery of the Ear and Upper Airways” by Leo Katz and Felix Blumenfeld , which had several editions.

Preysing died of heart failure in 1926 at the age of 60 and was buried in Cologne's Melaten cemetery (hallway 20 (E)). The grave has now been cleared.
