James Byeram Owens

James Byeram Owens (* 1816 near Winnsboro , Fairfield County , South Carolina , † August 1, 1889 in Ocala , Marion County , Florida ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) in the 19th century . He was the brother-in-law of Ethelbert Barksdale and the grandfather of John Wellborn Martin . He was also a Baptist .

Owens was a Florida delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1860 . The following year he represented that state at its secession convention . He was then elected to the Provisional Confederate Congress, where he worked from February 6, 1861 to February 15, 1862.

He died in Ocala, Florida in 1889 and was then buried there in Evergreen Cemetery .
