James Collins (Artist)

James Collins (* 1939 in Northampton ) is an Anglo-American photographer .

life and work

James Collins studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design from 1959 to 1964 and graduated as a teacher. Collins has been working with the camera since 1969. In 1970 he moved to New York City and taught at various universities in the United States. Between 1973 and 1974 he regularly published articles in Artforum on current artists and contemporary photography.

Collins' photographs are prints of his films made on Super 8 .

At the documenta 6 in Kassel, Collins exhibited the work Movements in the Night: Who is Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue . In 1978, Collins had a solo show curated by Sarah Kent at the Institute of Contemporary Arts .
