James Cowles Prichard (born February 11, 1786 in Ross-on-Wye , Herefordshire , † December 23, 1848 in London ) was an English doctor and ethnologist .

His concept of moral insanity , which is very similar to the monomania doctrine of Esquirols and Marc and goes back to the concept of manie sine delirio Michael Ettmüller and manie sans délire Philippe Pinels , is interesting from a psychiatric perspective .
