James PH Creitz

James Philip Harrold Creitz (born April 7, 1957 in Madison, Wisconsin ) is an American violist.

biography

Creitz began to play the cello at the age of three, enthusiastic about the rehearsals of the Pro Arte Quartet with Rudolf Kolisch. He gave his first concert at the age of five. After studying at Yale University and with Bruno Giuranna, he worked as a violist.

His earliest chamber music teachers and, at the same time, his later chamber music partners were members of the Guarneri , Pro Arte and Vegh Quartet as well as the Beaux Arts Trio . Twenty recordings were made. He performed at the Salzburg and Berlin Festival Weeks and the South Bank Festival with Rostropovich, Giuranna, Yo Yo Ma, and Maria Joao Pires. He has also made guest appearances at La Scala in Milan, the Sydney Opera House, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Suntory Hall.

From 1983 to 1993 he was a member of the Academica String Quartet, with which he gave concerts in Europe and the Orient and made several recordings. James Creitz gives master classes in Italy, Spain, Germany and the USA. He is also a member of the D'Amici String Quartet.

James Creitz has been a professor at the State Music Academy in Trossingen since 1991 , giving concerts on a viola by Giovanni Grancino built in Milan in 1695.
