James Kajiya

James Thomas Kajiya (* 1951 ), also Jim Kajiya , is a pioneer in the field of computer graphics .

Life

Kajiya received his PhD from the University of Utah in 1979 . In the same year he became a lecturer at Caltech , which he left in 1994. Today he works as a scientist at Microsoft Research .

In a paper presented in 1986 , he showed that all rendering techniques widely used to date can be derived directly from a common basis, the rendering equation . He is also considered to be the inventor of path tracing , an image synthesis algorithm that enables the simulation of global lighting.
