The James McNeillie Circuit was a permanent motorsport racing circuit in the Kumalo district of the city of Bulawayo in the Matabeleland North Province , Zimbabwe .

history

The route was named after the politician and city councilor of Bulawayo James McNeillie and was partly built on a former airfield in Kumalo in the late 1950s, with the start and finish straight with the eastern hairpin being on the former airfield runway.

From 1961 to 1970 the Rhodesian Grand Prix was held on the track with Formula 1 vehicles. The route with a length of around 3400 meters with four curves and a hairpin was driven clockwise. The fastest lap in 1970 was set by the four-time winner on this track, John Love in a March Cosworth Formula 1.

In 1971 the James McNeillie Circuit was closed and the races were then held on the new Breedon Everard Raceway . Part of the site of the former route is now built over.
