James Pataki
James Pataki (* 1925 in Hungary ; † January 27, 2004 in Fredericton ) was a Canadian violinist and violist of Hungarian origin.
Pataki grew up in Toronto and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Kathleen Parlow . He graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest with a diploma in viola. As a soloist and chamber musician, he went on concert tours through America, Asia and Europe. In 1970 he was one of the founding members of the Brunswick String Quartet , led by Joseph Pach , at the University of New Brunswick . A passionate art collector himself, he founded the art gallery Gallery 78 with his wife in 1976 . The University of New Brunswick donated an award in his memory after his death.
