James Sinegal

James Sinegal (born January 1, 1936 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American entrepreneur and co-founder of the retail chain Costco Wholesale , the second largest retail chain in the world after Walmart .

Career

Sinegal attended Helix High School in La Mesa . He then studied at San Diego City College , which he successfully left in 1955. He then studied at San Diego State University , which he successfully left in 1959.

Entrepreneurship

In 1983, Sinegal founded Costco Wholesale with partner Jeffrey Brotman . The company is headquartered in Issaquah , Washington , employs around 205,000 people worldwide (as of 2015) and has annual sales of around 113 billion US dollars (as of 2015).
